Is there a way to restart the helper in Settings - General - Helpers -
External Authentication check box via the command line?
what kind of external authentication script is it?
We use a perl script which has no memory leak but I am sure that it is possible to kill the script's process and that it is restarted within a few seconds automatically. So maybe you can restart the external authentication script via cron daily at night.
