Is it logged somewhere how the load of the SMTP Server was at a certain time? 


Or can it be monitored live when making some tests?


In our case its not so rare, that the communication with the CGP is sometimes sluggish (also IMAP checking for mails) , but I cannot say is the reason in low bandwith or is the server the culprit

Sometimes we get timeouts when one of our SMTP helpers/filters is getting overwhelmed by the amount of mail coming in.  It is rare, but it does happen.
