Hello,

From the Miscellaneous section of manual:

"Senders can request return-receipts by including the Return-Receipt-To: header fields into messages. When a message containing a Return-Receipt-To: header field is delivered to a local Account, the Server generates a Delivery Notification message. That message is sent to the Return-Path address of the message, not to the address specified in the message Return-Receipt-To: header field.”

There’s also a 'Send Read Receipts’ option for Webmail.

This is a new topic for me. How does the read receipt functionality work? Does it require the sender to include the said headers to the message? What if the CGP user reads email with an IMAP client? Can I set a specific address to always send a Read Receipt to a sender?

These are two types of return-receipts: delivery status notification (DSN) and message disposition notification (MDN, aka "read receipt").

The former is the transport thing and usually requested on the SMTP protocol level by the NOTIFY parameter to the RCPT TO command. Since the local delivery (also PIPE and other methods) in CGPro does not use SMTP there's additional (and non standard way) to request that notification through that Return-Receipt-To: header.

The positive DSN generated as a result of successful delivery may be suppressed on the receiving server (it's possible to suppress them in CGPro Queue Settings.) So don't be surprised if you don't gete the notification even when you know that the message has been delivered.

Read receipts (MDN) are generated by the receiving mail client if the message contains the header Disposition-Notification-To - after getting a confimation from the human reader or automatically. This one is also suppressed usually in the configuration of mail clients.

So, while both may seem an interesting tool to track message delivery, you can't depend on them these days.
