More importantly, though, what changed since before the upgrade? Why would he notice a slowdown after 5.2.9, but not before?

Increase in traffic?

Increase in non-mail load on the machine (file serving, web, etc)

Change in the CGP software?

It has to be something that was different before than after. Of course, making sure that the disks are on separate buses (or should they be on the same?), switching to Gigabit ENet, adding RAM, mdir vs. mbox, etc are all good things to look into, but they don't explain the sudden change.

100 Mbit or gigabit network? Firewall or router inbetween server and users? How many users?

CGP usually doesn't use much resources but do you use maildir or mbox mailbox format?

It is

Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 on PPC G4. One CPU @ 1GHz. 1.5GB RAM. Two IBM-IC35L120AVVA07-0 disks (mirrored).

The overall load is small:

Load Avg:  0.19, 0.22, 0.13     CPU usage:  18.7% user, 10.4% sys, 71.9% idle

To clarify, I talked with some clients and got this addendum:

Transfer with MAPI was going slow with the installation of Windows Vista. Windows XP AND Outlook 2007 were time better! The change to Vista was months ago.

Now when upgrading the server to 5.2.9, it get even worse. It is the only change at this moment.

What is slow:
Starting Outlook 2007 and waiting until connection to server is made and Outlook is responsive takes about 2 Minutes.
Working in Outlook 2007 is OK.
Sending big e-mails (e.g. 4MB) is blocking the whole Outlook for a long time with the CGP MAPI connector in the foreground doing the transfer.

Hello Folks

We have CGP 5.2.9 at work thanks to the new AIRSYNC features, which are great!

But we encounter slowness (about 50% as fast as before) when connected with MAPI. The used versions are:

Server:
Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 on PPC G4
CGP 5.2.9

Client:
Windows Vista Business V. 6.0 with Service Pack 1 an all current patches as of today
Outlook 2007 Version 12.0.6316.500 inkl. Service Pack 1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000)
MAPI Connector 1.52.5.1/1.52.5.2

Any similar diagnosis out there?

Marcel
