Sounds to me very much like a job for an external script running as a scheduled task (Windows) or from cron (Linux, UNIX).
I'd hazard a guess that something in Perl using the CLI or XIMSS would work, as long as it can parse the calendar data. In fact, I'd hazard another guess that this probably already exists somewhere!
