It is rumored that on or about 2002-12-09 12:19 PM -0700, Warren Michelsen wrote as follows:
Since this is a backup MTA, the router entries are of the form:
domain1.com = domain1.com.smtp
domain2.com = domain2.com.smtp

The address will never become local, since there are no accounts (other than administrative) on this SIMS box.

From the SIMS docs (edited):

Foreign Aliasing

Foreign Alias records contains a full name in the angle brackets and the Router scans them when it processes every address (not only the addresses with an empty domain name part).

Example:
    <sales@client1.com> = sales-client1

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used only in the local part of the full account name (i.e. it can be used before the @ sign).

So you cannot wildcard the domain. You must use these entries BEFORE your regular foreign aliasing (or use the foreign aliased domains AFTER the foreign aliasing).

<ralph@domain1.com> = spamtrap
<ralph@domain2.com> = spamtrap
<ralph@domain3.com> = spamtrap
