At 12:51 AM -0500 12/19/04, David C King  imposed structure on a stream of electrons, yielding:
Mail is not being delivered to my SIMS machine and I suspect that there's a DNS problem with my dynamic DNS provider.

As a test, I sent a msg to myself using my real IP number instead of my domain name.

The SMTP connection (from my ISP) was made with SIMS and then the log shows an error of 61. (Relevant portion of log is highlighted below. I've 'obfuscated' all real IP numbers, domain names and user names; the real ones appear in my logs.)

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

That really isn't enough of the log, and your (pointless) obfuscation of the IP addresses prevents diagnosis because it is unclear what connection is being attempted. Even without your obfuscation, it looks like you only have the SMTP module logging at level 3, making diagnosis hopeless.

Generally speaking, error 61 is a 'Connection Refused' code from the transport layer, indicating that the initial SYN was answered with a RESET instead of a SYN ACK.  However, I'm not certain that SIMS is never going to use that code for some similar higher-level failure like a 5xx in a banner and dropped link. I seem to recall Vlad or Dmitri saying here that sometimes SIMS would piggyback its error codes on some deeper layer to make them more readily interpretable.

Thanks

David
