Why should a message id match the "From:"?

My message ids are something like <p04320406b588bda3d8fd@[]>, just because Eudora 4.3.2 likes to put in the Mac's TCP/IP address (which may change because I am using DHCP). And when I dial in somewhere else, it will still be different, but seldom match my From:.
