I've also received bounces from my ISP at this point.  The error says:

 <user%aol.com@smtp.commercialfree.org>:
 Connected to 128.241.172.179 but greeting failed.
 Remote host said: 572 Relay not authorized

128.241.172.179 is my ISP's SMTP server (smtp.commercialfree.org).  I, too,
would like to find a way to strip the "percent-hack" out of this--
